The Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) covers the world's best companies in terms of sustainability performance (essentially the top 10% of the biggest 2,500 companies in the Dow Jones World Index) based on economic, environmental and social criteria.
As a benchmark for European sustainability investments, the Dow Jones STOXX Sustainability Index (DJSI STOXX) covers the leading 20% in terms of sustainability of the companies in the Dow Jones STOXX SM 600 Index.
Pirelli was selected for the first time in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index STOXX (DJSI STOXX) in 2002 and has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability World index for a number of years now.
Pirelli was also named the 2008 global sustainability leader for the "Autoparts and Tyres industry", as well as a Gold Class company by the SAM Group, as published in its prestigious Sustainability Yearbook 2008, which is published by SAM in collaboration with PricewaterhouseCoopers and was presented in January at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The Yearbook is the most complete, most authoritative guide for sustainable finance throughout the world. Only the top 15% of the publicly listed companies in 57 business sectors, based on SAM assessments of over a thousand multinational organizations, are included.
