Group companies encourage and, where necessary, provide support for social, cultural and educational initiatives geared towards promoting personal development and improving standards of living. (Article 5 of the Ethical Code ).

"Pirelli Group supports and respects the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights" (from the "Health, Safety, Environment and Social Responsibility" Policy)

Awareness of its role in promoting civil and cultural progress of communities where it operates has been a cornerstone of Pirelli  business culture for more than 130 years.
For this reason, the Group promotes and carries out social, cultural, educational, and solidarity initiatives by working with both public and private institutions, local authorities, associations and bodies in all countries where it operates.

This commitment is not only consistent with the principles expressed in the Code of Ethics and Group Corporate Social Responsibility Policy, but also forms an important part of Pirelli strategy of maintaining its role as an international company that is one of the most integrated and active within the communities where it operates. As a consequence, Pirelli has always been involved in social, artistic, training and sports initiatives.

Speaking about sustainable social integration, Group Chairman, Marco Tronchetti Provera, said in a recent interview, "This is a necessary and constant commitment, working at a business as well as at an ethical level. The business lives with its human and financial resources, with its suppliers, customers and competitors, and will only enjoy enduring growth and success if it is integrated within a balanced social setting. … We are Brazilians in Brazil, Argentineans in Argentina, and Italians in Italy."

All activities are carried out together with partners of proven reliability, selected so as to ensure the highest quality standards.

Throughout the Group, a great many initiatives are under way in the areas of solidarity, art, culture, education, and sport.  The following are just a few examples:

- In June 2008, the project to promote Italian culture in Slatina, Romania, was presented.
Promoting cultural exchange between Italy and Romania is the goal of the project, which was presented at the Pirelli facilities in the presence of Daniele Mancini, the Italian Ambassador to Bucarest, who sponsored the event, as well as the mayor of Slatina, Darius Valcova, and the Dean of Modern Languages at the University of Craiova, Gabriel Cosoveanu.

- The Group has also promoted and financed a three-year collaborative project between the Niguarda hospital in Milan and the Slatina hospital for the training and development of the Romanian doctors, nurses and technicians. The project includes a training contribution for personnel at the Slatina hospital, including through professional exchanges and training periods both in Milan and in Slatina. In June 2008, the second delegation of doctors and paramedics from Slatina came to the Niguarda Cà Granda hospital.

For children, Pirelli has set up, in collaboration with FC Internazionale ("Inter") and Associazione Comunità Nuova Onlus, a new "intercampus" in Slatina. The project uses soccer as a means of educating and bringing together the youth of the Slatina community, thereby providing them with a fun, effective opportunity for growth and interaction.

Pirelli is also one of the founding members of Emergency, an independent (neutral and apolitical) humanitarian association established to provide free, high-quality medical and surgical assistance to civilian victims of war, landmines, and poverty throughout the world.
Pirelli is a corporate supporter of Children in Crisis in Italy, an Italian association that is a part of the international Children in Crisis network founded by the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, in 1993 and active in 13 countries around the world, working to improve the lives of children who have been victims of conflict, poverty, disease, and other serious crises.

Another initiative of note in the area of solidarity is the support the Group provides to the Sempre Insieme per la Pace association, which provides humanitarian aid internationally.

The Group is a longstanding member of Fondo per l'Ambiente Italiano (FAI), an environmental fund with which the company collaborates on a variety of initiatives.
